  • Leaving and coming alongside pontoons and docks
  • Securing to a buoy and anchoring
  • Planing speed manoeuvres
  • Man overboard recovery techniques
  • Collision Regulations (COLREGs) in real-world situations

Pre-Requisites

  • Minimum age: 12 (under 16s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian also enrolled on the course; under 18s require a signed waiver from a parent/guardian)
  • No previous experience required
  • Bring a passport photograph for your course completion certificate
  • Recommended: Purchase the RYA Powerboat Handbook and a Logbook

What To Do Next?

Successful students receive the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course completion certificate issued by the RYA.

This certificate:

  • Is widely accepted for both professional and recreational boating
  • Satisfies the legal requirement to operate a powerboat in Antigua and Barbuda
  • Can be commercially endorsed by the RYA for professional work on small powerboats and is accepted in many countries.

Apply for the ICC (International Certificate of Competence)

Add RYA Marine Radio (SRC) for commercial or charter use

Course Details Duration: 2 days

Format: Practical course on the water

Experience required: None. May be preceded by Level 1 Start Powerboating

Course type: Non-residential

 

Provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. It aims to teach boat handling and seamanship in powerboats. It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations.
