SKILLS WEEKS

5-Day Liveaboard Sailing Training

Build real sailing confidence in five days of immersive, hands-on training around Antigua. Skills Weeks are residential (liveaboard) sailing courses designed to sharpen practical seamanship, boat handling, and onboard routines—without the pressure of working toward a formal certification. It’s the ideal “experience builder” for sailors who want to level up quickly in warm Caribbean waters.

What Will You Learn

Over five practical days on the water, you will focus on the skills that make sailing feel easy, safe, and enjoyable:

  • Sail trim and efficient sail handling for different conditions
  • Helming and steering skills (upwind, downwind, manoeuvres)
  • Close-quarters handling under power (berthing, picking up a mooring, anchoring)
  • Ropework, knots, and line handling you’ll actually use
  • Onboard safety routines and best practice seamanship
  • Crew communication, teamwork, and watch-style routines (as appropriate)
  • Practical “what would you do?” scenario training (weather, traffic, equipment issues)

There is no formal curriculum for a skills week- tell us what you want to focus on and we’ll make it happen!

During the week we sail to different locations around Antigua and Barbuda (and potentially to other Caribbean islands).

Our student–instructor ratio is 4:1, which allows maximum individual attention and a bespoke learning experience for every student. Private groups of up to 5 can be accommodated.

Who Is It For

Skills Week is ideal if you:

  • Have done some sailing but want to feel more confident on deck and at the helm
  • Want a practical week on board without an exam or certificate focus
  • Are preparing for a future RYA course (like RYA Day Skipper Practical or RYA Coastal Skipper Practical) and want extra time on the water
  • Want a structured liveaboard sailing experience as part of a holiday in Antigua
  • Prefer coaching and repetition to “tick-box” training
  • Plan on chartering in the Caribbean and want local experience and knowledge

Pre-Requisites

  • Some sailing experience is helpful but not essential
  • Recommended: Purchase a Logbook
