5 Fun Things to Do After Your Sailing Course

Completing a sailing course is no small feat, and after a few days of learning the ropes, literally speaking, it is only fitting that one treats themselves with some well deserved fun. In English Harbour, there are many ways to celebrate. Here are some of our top recommendations for what to do right after your course with Second Star Sailing:

1. Hike to Mermaid Gardens & the Pillars of Hercules Mermaid Gardens Rock Pool

If you’re up for one last adventure before unwinding, take a scenic hike to Mermaid Gardens. This natural tide pool, hidden along the rugged coastline, is the perfect place to cool off and take in breathtaking ocean views. Along the way, you’ll also pass the stunning Pillars of Hercules towering rock formations shaped by the waves over centuries. Bring a swimsuit, some good walking shoes, and a sense of adventure.

    2. Dine at Lobster Hut (The Lobster Hut)

After days of sailing, nothing beats a good meal. Head over to Lobster Hut for some of the best seafood in the area; enjoy freshly grilled lobster, local fish, and island inspired sides in a laidback, beach setting. It is an excellent place to toast to your new sailing skills with friends over a delicious Caribbean feast.

    3. Dance the Night Away at Abras (Abracadabra)

If one is in the mood to keep the energy high, it has to be Abracadabra, affectionately known as “Abras.” This nightclub, nestled in English Harbour, is one of the favorite hangouts amongst sailors, locals, and visitors alike. Great music, live DJs, you are guaranteed a blast, a great way to celebrate your new sailing achievements.

    4. Seafood Fridays in Nelson’s Dockyard (Copper & Lumber Store Hotel)

Friday night at Nelson’s Dockyard: an easy and entertaining night, albeit relaxed. Any given Friday from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, vendors come in and work among the historical settings of the Dockyard. Food varies from fish to lobster to conch grilled, fried, steamed, poached, blackened, grilled with butter and lemon, however you like it. Best place to get together, listen to music, have some drinks, and enjoy a fun evening.

    5. Spend the Day at Loose Cannon (Loose Cannon Beach Bar)

If you are looking for a place to kick back and soak up the Caribbean vibes for a whole day, Loose Cannon is your place. This lively beachfront bar and lounge offers comfy seating, great cocktails, and plenty of space to relax by the water.
