Catamarans can be great charter options as they are very family and group friendly, with plenty of room to congregate and share meals after a good day of sailing along the coast of Antigua or up to the beautiful island of Barbuda.
We offer our standard RYA Competent Crew, RYA Day Skipper and RYA Coastal Skipper onboard, as well as a special Transition to Catamarans week so that you can both deepen your skippering skills and widen your options when chartering or sailing your own boat.
During your time on board, we will explore the differences between monohull and catamaran sailing such as tacking angles and docking practices, as well as covering the full RYA syllabus for your course. Overboard crew recovery, downwind sailing, safety, and navigation will be addressed (just to name a few) while also making sure we take time to stop for a swim break along one of our beautiful beaches.
You will be learning on a comfortable cruising catamaran with three or four ensuite cabins, showers and heads, fully equipped galley, a saloon, and a spacious area on deck.
The RYA Competent Crew Catamaran Training course is ideal for beginners. It’s the ideal course for those who want to participate as crew, learning the ropes and basic skills to help run a Catamaran.
The RYA Day Skipper certificate is the minimum accepted certificate by most authorities worldwide to charter a yacht or Catamaran. To get the RYA Day Skipper Certificate you need to complete the practical course and pass the assessment of RYA Day Skipper Theory. At our school, we require proof of completion of the Day Skipper Theory course before enrolling in the practical course. We recommend completing the RYA Day Skipper Theory course online (the most convenient option) or in the classroom beforehand.
Holders of an RYA Day Skipper certificate can apply to the RYA for an ICC (International Certificate of Competence) which is an internationally recognized qualification.
The RYA Coastal Skipper Certification enables sailors to sail Catamarans on coastal passages, both during the day and at night. It requires a higher level of competence and decision-making abilities, as sailors may encounter more challenging weather conditions and navigate unfamiliar waters, and to other islands including custom procedures.
To get the RYA Coastal Skipper Certificate you need to complete the practical course and pass the assessment of RYA Coastal Skipper Theory / Yachtmaster Offshore. At our school, we require proof of completion of the theory course before enrolling in the practical course. We recommend completing the course online (the most convenient option) or in the classroom beforehand.
A bespoke course designed to enable a certified monohull Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper to make the cross over to Catamaran sailing. The emphasis is developing practical boat handling skills for sail and power required onboard a Catamaran as opposed to a monohull.
