CATAMARAN TRAINING

RYA Training & Bespoke Coaching on Catamarans in Antigua

Learn to sail, skipper, or transition to catamaran sailing in Antigua with expert instruction and small group coaching. Choose an RYA-certified course or a bespoke training week and gain the skills that matter for Caribbean chartering, family cruising, and multihull ownership.

Train on a comfortable cruising catamaran in warm Caribbean waters—or bring your own vessel and learn on board.

Why Train on a Catamaran?

Catamarans are the platform of choice for Caribbean cruising and chartering—and for good reason:

  • Space & comfort for families and groups
  • Stability with minimal heel
  • Twin engines for precise close-quarters handling
  • Excellent charter versatility across the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and the South Pacific

Our courses focus on the real differences between monohulls and multihulls, so you leave confident, capable, and charter ready.

What You Will Learn

All training is practical and hands-on, with coaching tailored to your experience and goals:

  • Catamaran handling under sail and power
  • Docking and manoeuvring with twin engines (“split the sticks”)
  • Sail trim, tacking angles, and downwind techniques
  • Anchoring, mooring, and close-quarters work
  • Navigation, safety, and passage planning
  • Crew management and onboard routines
  • Multihull-specific man overboard recovery

You’ll also enjoy time ashore and swim stops along Antigua’s coastline—and, conditions permitting, trips toward Barbuda.

Courses Available

RYA Competent Crew (Catamaran)

Perfect for beginners who want to become confident, active crew members on a cruising catamaran.

RYA Day Skipper (Catamaran)

The internationally recognised qualification required by most charter companies. Ideal if you want to skipper a catamaran independently.
RYA Day Skipper Theory required before the practical course.

RYA Coastal Skipper (Catamaran)

Advanced training for longer coastal passages, including night sailing and island-to-island cruising.
RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore Theory required before the practical course.

Skills Week (Catamaran)

Sharpen practical seamanship, boat handling, and onboard routines—without the pressure of working toward a formal certification. It’s the ideal “experience builder” for catamaran sailors who want to level up quickly in warm Caribbean waters.

Transition to Catamarans (Bespoke)

A tailored programme for monohull-qualified skippers who want to switch to catamarans with confidence—focusing on handling, manoeuvring, and real-world decision-making.
