Second Star Sailing in collaboration with Antigua Sailing Week and the National Sailing Academy is happy to welcome Farr 65 Falken and 59° North to Antigua and host an event with the Antigua Yacht Club Marina‘s support to encourage more girls and women to get involved in sailing.
On Saturday 23rd March at 2pm, all girls and women are invited to a casual tour of the Falken which will be docked at Antigua Yacht Club Marina (Falmouth Harbour). Located alongside the Marinaside Dock, you will be able to join the boat tour, meet the organisations and other likeminded women in sailing. The organisations will talk about the sailing industry in the Caribbean, guide interested people into options of how to get involved in the sport as well as discuss further opportunities for training, scholarships, internships and apprenticeships.
Owned by 59° North, Falken has made her way from Norway, across the Atlantic, and is now sailing through the Caribbean and back across to Europe. Crew member and fellow islander joining the boat in Antigua, Nathalie Zenny heralds from Jamaica and is on a personal mission to encourage more women in the Caribbean to get involved in sailing: “I’ve been involved in marine conservation in the region for many years and have always been interested by extension in sailing. 59° North has a growing apprenticeship program and wants to see more females involved in the industry. We wanted to connect with local organizations doing similar work in Antigua and share experiences”.
