Our RYA Day Skipper Practical Course helps students develop and refine their skills to skipper a sailing yacht by day in familiar waters. You will gain the confidence to be responsible for of the crew and the yacht while on short passages by refining your theoretical knowledge and building upon your previous sailing experience.
The practical skills will include sailing maneuvers, anchoring, docking, safety procedures and man overboard exercises. The thrill and experience of night sailing, and really feeling the boat are usually a highlight of the week.
We run this residential 5-day course Sunday-Thursday during the season at our Antigua base in the Caribbean, so that you have the option to extend and take other recommended courses such as VHF Radio, Diesel Engine or First Aid at Sea – or simply join us for a few more days of sailing!
This Practical course should be ideally taken when you have completed the RYA Day Skipper Theory course, so you can most benefit from applying that knowledge on board. We also offer packages for RYA Day Skipper Intensives and Online Theory & Practical (which maximizes your time on board to practical training/sailing!)
Holders of the RYA Day Skipper Certificate can apply for the ICC – International Certificate of Competence – which is required in many countries to charter a sailboat.
