Sailing among the seven pearls of the Archipelago

This is a sail & have fun trip, which will allow you to either actively participate and learn new sailing skills while on the boat, or the opportunity to relax and soak up the marine environment, sunshine and culture of Tuscany.

Proposed Itinerary:
Monday: We begin at the new Marina in Pisa, where we board at 9:00 am and proceed to get to know each other and the sailboat, including setting up your cabins, a safety briefing and an overall trip introduction.  After provisioning up the boat with any last minute market items you may need, we set out sailing either toward the Island of Capraia or the Island of Elba, depending on the weather and your skipper’s judgment.  The description of the trip below assumes you begin by sailing to Elba.
After a nice sail south to either the coast marinas of Cala dei Medici, Cecina or of San Vincenzo, we then tie up for the night, and enjoy the evening activities on shore.  You can choose to visit nearby etruscan and roman ruins, go to the beach for a sunset swim- or if in San Vincenzo, hike up to tiny Populonia, and visit the temples – or simply have a glass of wine and a great view of the whole coastline, including many of the Islands of the Arcipelago Toscano.
Tuesday:  After a typical Italian breakfast, we set sail to the island of Elba, stopping to swim and enjoy the coastline along the way, and after a lunch while underway or at anchor we will be arriving in the port of Marciana Marina where we begin to experience the island.   The quaint town has good restaurants and in the marina there are several excellent local gelato shops, and maybe you can rent a vespa or scooter to tour one of the neighboring towns….

Wednesday: Fresh pastries for breakfast, and then, depending on the wind, we can choose to have a leisurely day on Elba, possibly sailing to Porto Azzurro, snorkeling and visiting the small calas on east side of the island, or decide to have a bit of a longer sail and go to all the way to the Island of Giglio, which is a natural jewel but has most recently been famous for the unfortunate Costa Concordia cruise ship “landing” on its shores…  Again we will be taking advantage of onshore activities and the Italian Bella Vita in the evenings, no matter where we are.

Thursday:  If we are on the island of Giglio, we sail back across to Portoferraio, the biggest town on Elba, working off all the pasta we have been sampling – or if on Elba, we can continue exploring the third largest island in Italy…  maybe choosing a bike tour or more bikini and beach time going to the other side of Elba– maybe Rio Marina or the spiaggia at Lacona.  Rio Marina has excellent choices for either a Ristorante or a Trattoria which specialize in local fresh caught fish.
Friday:  We sail the 25 miles north to the island of Capraia, a largely unspoiled location and the destination of choice for scuba diving – which we can help arrange for you ahead of time- and snorkeling,  should you want to experience the underwater treasures of the Parco Naturale Marino dell’Arcipelago Toscano… or you can simply swim to the beach and enjoy the sun!   The island is rather quiet and refreshing, and is a great place to be able to sleep behind your sunglasses and rest up before returning to Pisa for a last night out on the town.
Saturday:  Leaving Capraia after having fueled up with another great Italian colazione of strong espresso and fresh bread, we sail across and back to the mainland disembarking in Marina di Pisa by early evening, in time to change into Saturday night mode and experience its beaches and nightlife….
Please note:   the proposed itinerary is indicative, and always subject to change due to weather conditions and your Skipper’s judgment.
Should you have a full group hire, we can work with you to modify the trip to better suit your needs or include extras from our other offerings.  And if you are interested in additional activities, sports or equipment, we can help arrange that for you – from experiencing kitesurfing to bicycling… as always, just ask.
