Duration: 5 days.

The RYA Competent Crew course allows an absolute beginner to develop the skills and the knowledge to become a member of a crew on a cruising yacht.  The course is designed to give you the fundamental skills that will make you a useful and competent part of the on board team, from learning nautical terms, to knots, and especially how to move around the boat and use its safety equipment.  During the course you will take turns helming and trimming the sails, and assisting in all required maneuvers.  As you will be living on board, it will enable you to appreciate the surrounding natural environment and the teamwork required to comfortably share space and experiences with your fellow crew members.

Students who successfully complete the course are awarded the RYA Competent Crew Certificate.  There is no exam at the end of the course, as it is a continuous learning and evaluative experience during the week.

Included in the price of the course are on board accommodations in a shared cabin, all safety equipment and didactic materials, mooring and port fees. We have a maximum of 5 students per instructor on our RYA courses, which allows for both plenty of hands-on sailing time and individual attention from your instructor.

All our RYA courses are taught in English.  If you have any questions as to your level of knowledge of English, please contact us and we can assist you.  Specific nautical and sailing terms will be introduced and explained during the course, so technical vocabulary is not required prior to the course.
